Getting your child ready for the next big step

Children are ready to move to preschool when they are fully potty trained and at least three years old. The preschool and pre-k programs are organized on a school year calendar so that your child is in his or her age appropriate class by September of each year. We have preschool classrooms for threes, fours, and fives (those children that miss the cutoff for kindergarten).

Preschoolers are full of curiosity and spend a great deal of time observing the world around them. Our program uses this opportunity to focus on academic readiness skills and social development skills. Children are introduced to many of the skills and concepts they will need to be successful learners for years to come. At this age, children are learning to be friends and interact as a group, more so than when they were toddlers. In preschool, children learn about empathy, compassion, cooperation, patience, and tolerance. They being to make independent choices and have an increased ability to follow rules.

Children learn to recognize an expanded range of shapes and numbers. In addition, techniques are used to enhance the child’s ability to associate groups of letters with spoken words, and children are encouraged to tell stories through figures and symbols. As they progress, teachers challenge the children to begin writing and identifying letters.

Music and art are key components of Bright Start’s program, at every age and stage of development. The children learn songs, listen to music, play instruments, dance, experiment with a variety of art mediums, and enjoy teacher led and interactive STEM experiments.

Teachers stimulate the child’s understanding of cause and effect and inquisitiveness through activities that present real-world situations. Age-appropriate, interactive learning areas are available for the children to explore and learn as they play.

Our goal is to provide a supportive program that allows children to build confidence, self-esteem, and self-awareness while attaining the self-regulation they will need to transition to the school setting. Along with listening skills, teamwork, following directions, and communicating thoughts and ideas, children will work towards the ultimate goal of believing that learning, playing, and growing is fun and that they are capable little people.
